On my Windows devices I have started using Microsoft PowerToys. PowerToys is a collection of different useful utilities. Below is a list of which utilities I use and how I have set them up. There are other tools available in the PowerToys collection, the list below is just the ones I regularly find useful. Note, that most of the descriptions below are copied from the documentation.

Color Picker

🪟+⬆️+🇨 Color Picker is a system-wide colour picking utility. Pick colours from anywhere on the screen, the picker automatically copies the colour to your clip-board in a set format.

File Locksmith

File Locksmith is a Windows shell extension to check which files are in use and by which processes.

Mouse Utilities

Find My Mouse

CTRL CTRL Activate a spotlight that focuses on the cursor’s position.

Mouse Highlighter

🪟+⬆️+🇭 Display visual indicators when the left or right mouse buttons are clicked. This is useful when screen sharing to show other persons what you clicked on.

Mouse Pointer Crosshairs

🪟+⬆️+🇴 Mouse Pointer Crosshairs draws crosshairs centered on the mouse point-er. This is useful when screen sharing to show other persons where your mouse is, especially if you have a really big screen.

Image Resizer

Image Resizer is a Windows Shell extension for quickly resizing images. With a right click from File Explorer, instantly resize one or many images.

Paste As Plain Text

CTRL+⬆️+🇻 Paste As Plain Text allows you to paste text from your clipboard, ex-cluding text-formatting.


CTRL+SPACE Peek allows you to preview file content without the need to open mul-tiple applications or interrupt your workflow.


Use PowerRename to perform bulk renaming; searching and replacing file names. It includes advanced features, such as using regular expressions, targeting specific file types, previewing expected results, and the ability to undo changes.

Screen Ruler

🪟+⬆️+🇷 Use Screen Ruler to quickly measure pixels on your screen based with image edge detection.

Text Extractor

🪟+🇹Text Extractor is a convenient way to copy text from anywhere on your screen.
